A nice review of 'THE RACE' from writer Don Alloway

Jim

I got your book a while back – I can’t say enough good things about this master piece — and I do not use that term lightly. To my mind the book is the product of a mature artist working at the height of his powers. I only wish I had half as much control of my abilities as a writer as you show here with your photography and your writing. Everything comes together in this book with perfection. Take a big bow, you have shot out the lights.

The surprise for me is the writing (I’ve known for a long time about your abilities with cameras), which is first rate. The prose is clear, pithy, technically perfect and laid down so that the average reader gets a firsthand sense of what it takes to bring a car and driver to Indy. The interviews show real craftsmanship on your part in formulating questions that get around the stock “pr” answers that we hear from most professional athletes. Kudos for that, you’ve given us human beings in all their dimensions who happen to defy death for a living.

I hope the critics rave and that the book gets you a pot of money, so that you are: a.) fully rewarded for all the sacrifices you’ve made along the way and b.) able to continue to pursue your art with the freedom to take you wherever you want to go with it next, without any constraints.

Bravo, James, you’ve hit another home run.

Best, DonA
